Blacula (1972)

Probably the most unusual black-sploitation movie of the seventies. African Prince Manuwalde visits Count Dracula to seek his help in ending the slave trade. Instead, he is cursed with the affliction of vampirism and sealed in a coffin for 100 years. Now he's loose in the twentieth century and out to feed his bloodlust. William Marshall stars.

Blade (1998)

Wesley Snipes stars in this thrilling and stylish adaptation of the Marvel comic book. The half-human, half-vampire Blade must stop the vampire Frost (Stephen Dorff) from summoning the Great Vampire Lord and bathing the world in blood. Blood for Dracula's Udo Keir also stars, with Kris Kristofferson, N'Bushe Wright, and Traci Lords.

Blood for Dracula (1974)

Originally released as Andy Warhol's Dracula. Joe Dallesandro and Udo Keir star in one of the most erotic and also goriest treatments of the Dracula myth ever made. The Count moves from Transylvania to Italy, seeking the virgin blood which he needs to survive.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)

The most faithful adaptation of the Bram Stoker novel to date, albeit in a tongue-in-cheek manner. Visually stunning, with a stirring music score. Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins, Winona Ryder, Keanu Reeves, and Cary Elwes star under Francis Ford Coppola's direction.

The Brides of Dracula (1960)

Second installment in the Hammer Dracula series. Peter Cushing returns as Professor Van Helsing, this time hunting a vampiric baron prowling a girl's finishing school. David Peel and Martita Hunt co-star.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992)

The inspiration for the hit television series. Kristy Swanson plays the  high-school cheeleader turned vampire slayer, with Luke Perry as the eye-candy boy and Donald Sutherland as Buffy's mentor. Third installment in the classic Hammer Dracula series. Four hapless travellers stay the night in a lonely castle, not knowing that the previous owner was the King of Vampires himself, Dracula! Blood from one of the travellers is used to resuurect the Count, and another becomes his first new victim. The remaining two take refuge in the local monastery, but once the Count is let in, "all the garlic in the world won't keep him out." Christopher Lee, Andrew Keir, and Barbara Shelley star.

The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967),

Or Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are In My Neck. Dark comedy from Roman Polanski, director of Repulsion and Rosemary's Baby. An eccentric vampire hunter and his young assistant arrive in a Transylvanian village, where the local vampire count is about to hold a grand vampire ball. This film features Polanski's beautiful wife, Sharon Tate, who was later murdered by the Manson family. It also features the first Jewish vampire (played by Are You Being Served 's Alfie Bass), who responds to a crucifix with, "Oy! Have you got the wrong vampire!" The Lost Boys (1987)

One of the hippest vampire flicks ever made. New kid in town Jason Patric hooks up with a local biker gang, only to learn that they're vampires and want him to join. Tod Browning's talking version of his sadly lost silent classic London After Midnight. After a man is found dead from what appears to be a vampire attack, mysterious people are seen living (?) in the spooky house next door. Are they vampires? Or is someone else the killer?
